                                             “Nicholas Nickleby”

I think that it was a great book! When I started reading it, I couldn’t stop, because it was very interesting and there weren’t a lot of new words! But the only disadvantage was that there were a lot of names and I was a little confused. I like this kind of project and I’d like to do it again, but it’s a little bit tiring…!

The main characters of this book are two, Nicholas and Ralf Nickleby. Nicholas was a kind young man who liked working. He sometimes got angry and acted like an unkind child but there was a reason: Ralf Nickleby, his uncle. He was an evil old man, who loved money. He didn’t mind about other people’s feelings and he was very cruel, that was why he didn’t have any friends.

I think that my character is much more different than Ralf’s because I don’t love money, and I care about the others. But I think that Nicholas and I have a similarity, which is that I am kind and I sometimes become very rude, when I am angry. But I don’t really like working, like him…!

The messages of the book are two. The first one is that money doesn’t bring happiness, but the opposite. And sometimes money makes people evil, which makes them live alone, without friends. The second one is that people can change their character even if they are the worst of all.

There was a young boy, Nicholas Nickleby. His father died, and he and his family had no money and job. So he asked for help from his uncle Ralf, who was an evil man. Ralf made them live in pain, but they managed to live and make their lives happy, by making two new families, Nicholas’s and Kate’s, his sister.

                                              “The Client”

Mark Sway was eleven years old and he lived in Memphis. But he knew a terrible secret. He knew where a body was hidden. The policemen and the FBI wanted to learn some information from him. But Mark was frightened, because Barry Malldano, the murderer of the body threatened him that he was going to kill him if he spoke. The FBI understood that Mark was in trouble. So Mark talked to them and he told them where the body was. And then, the FBI sent him to another city, where Malldano couldn’t find him. And now he and his family were safe.

Mark was a tall boy with brown hair and light brown eyes. He was very brave. Ricky, his little brother, was short with blonde hair and green eyes. Dianne, Mark and Ricky’s mother, was very thin with blonde black hair and dark black eyes. She really loved her kids. Reggie Love, Mark’s lawyer, was a tall woman with grey hair. Her eyes were blue and she wore glasses.

My favourite character was Mark. He was very brave and he could do everything to help his family. I didn’t like Barry Malldano.

The message is that things are not always as they seem to be. And some secrets are so dangerous that it’s better not to tell.

I liked this book, it was very interesting and it always kept me in suspense. When I started reading this book, I was bored, but then I saw that it was fantastic. This kind of project is very useful, I think, because you can learn a lot of things, new grammar, vocabulary and you can practise your language. And the most important: opening your heart.

                                “The adventures of Tom Sawyer”

The story tells us about a boy named Tom and his adventures. The boy escaped many times from home, but he always came back. He disturbed the village, he lived in with his adventures. One day Tom and his motherless friend Huck found a treasure and they became rich. Huck finally found a house at widow Douglas’s home, because he saved her from a maniac criminal. After several years all of the village started to hunt for buried treasures.

The main characters of the story are: Tom who was the antagonist, Huck who was Tom’s friend, Becky who was Tom’s friend and Joe who was Tom’s friend, too. Also the other main characters are: Polly who was Tom’s aunt who took care of him and Joe, who is the maniac criminal. My favourite character was Tom, because he had many adventures and troubles and somehow he could take care of himself. My least favourite character was In Jun Joe, because he killed someone and he blamed another person for the murder. I can relate with Tom because and I have many troubles and adventures.

The message of the story is: First, we must never say never. Second, everything can be. Third, after the sufferings comes heaven.

The book was really nice and it can teach us many things about life, good and bad. The book was very interesting. I was in suspense to see how Tom would manage with his troubles and because of the suspense I read all of the book in three days. There are a lot of new words in the book but now I know what they mean. This reading project was very entertaining, tiring and full of anxiety.

 “John Grishram, the street lawyer”

This story was about a lawyer. His name was Michael. Michael worked for Drake and Sweeney. But this company was hiding some secrets. Michael didn’t know them. One day a homeless man attacked him. From this day Michael tried to discover who was this man but he discovered the secret of Drake and Sweeney. After this Michael was in danger.

The main characters are Michael and Mordecai. My favourite character was Michael because he helped the homeless. My least favourite character was Arthur Jacobs because he chased the poor and the homeless. I can relate with Mordecai because I like to help the poor and especially at Christmas.

The message of this book is to help the poor and the homeless people and we mustn’t chase them. The message of this book is very important because all the people must have a house and if they haven’t we must help them.

I think this book was interesting and it has a lot of suspense. The message of this book is to help the poor. This book wasn’t fun and entertaining because it was a thriller.

Rudolf Rasseldull was a daring man who decided to go to Strelsau because there would be the celebration of the king Rudolf the fifth. On his way to Strelsau he stayed at Zenda. In the morning of the next day he went for a walk in the forest. There he slept for a while. When he woke up, he saw two men talking. They told him that he was almost the same with the king. So, they took him. On their way, they found the king. He saw Rudolf and said that they were the same. Same hair, nearly the same face, the same name and the same height. So, they went to his castle. But the king became ill from the wine. So, Rudolf had to be the king until the real king become healthy. Then, he went to Strelsau with the two men Colonel Sapt and Fritz Von Tarlenheim. There, he met Princess Flavia. Rudolf fell in love with her but he knew that she would marry the real king. He became king and his life changed. He met Black Michael, the duke, too. Black Michael wanted to be the king, too. So, he closed the real king in a prison in Zenda. Rudolf and Sapt with Fritz learnt about it. Then, one night, he went to a house near Zenda. There was a woman, Antoinette Von Mauban. There he learnt how to get in the castle. Just then he heard voices out of the house. Three men were outside. Three of the six warriors of Black Michael. Rudolf took a cup of tea and threw it on them. Then, he escaped from a ladder near the house. The next day, Rudolf, Sapt and Fritz went to a castle opposite the prison. There they thought of a plan about how they would take the real king from the prison. So, at night, six warriors went to the castle. They fought and they killed two of the six warriors. They wanted to get in and just then, Antoinette Von Mauban started to shout. She was in the castle as a prisoner. Then, Michael and Rupert, the leader of the six warriors, gave a fight. Rupert killed Michael. And then, Rudolf entered the castle. There he killed two of the six. And at last, he entered the room where the king was. He killed the last two warriors and he saved the king. Then, the next morning, he said “goodbye” to Sapt, Fritz and Princess Flavia and left to go to his home.

Rudolf Rasseldull was a daring man, who always wanted to tell the truth. Sapt was a smart man, who was ready for every battle with his revolver. Fritz was an intelligent man who had a solution for every problem. Rudolf the fifth was a man who used to become ill easily and Black Michael was a bad and jealous man. My favourite character was Rudolf Rasseldull because he was a daring man and my worst favourite character was Michael because he was bad and jealous. I can relate with Rudolf because I’m daring and I always tell the truth.

The message of the book is that we have to risk to save our friends or to help them, whatever it costs us. We have to do it because he is a friend and friends help each other.

At the beginning it was boring but after it became interesting and fascinating. It kept me in suspense some times. Some times I wanted to keep reading, it had a lot of new words. This project was a bit difficult but it was fun and entertaining, too.

                                            “The Danger”

Hello!!! My name is Kiriaki Sinou. I’m twelve years old and I’m a good student. With my essay, I’ll describe to you the story of the book “My danger”.

Once upon a time there was a girl, whom lived in Italy. Her name was Alessia, and she was a famous jockey. One day, a man kidnapped her. Next, a small child called Dominic Nerrity, was kidnapped in England. Then, Morgan Freematle was kidnapped in the United States. All these three kidnappings, involved people of the horse-racing world. Andrew Douglas, a famous detective, undertook to find whether the same man is responsible for those kidnappings or not. Finally, he rescued those three people and he found who was guilty. Giuseppe-Peter was the kidnapper. Alessia was a poor person, clever, pretty and she loved other people. Andrew Douglas was a very good person and clever. He loved to help other people. Dominic was a good and smart woman. May Weagner, Andrew’s cooperator was clever, a good person and he had some very interesting ideas. Giuseppe-Peter was a very bad man, a little bit eccentric and he didn’t love to help other people. My favourite character was Andrew Douglas, because we have similar

characteristics. We both care about other people. This book is important and interesting, because it  gives us a message, which is necessary in our lives: We must care, help and love other people. I adored this book and I found it helpful and very well written. Also, it kept me in suspense, all the time!!

Nuclear war destroyed all life in the northern countries of the world. The radiation killed a lot of people in its path and it was travelling to the south.

Everyone was very scared. Peter Holmes and his family were trying to live as normally as they could. Peter was in his last but dangerous mission. He travelled to a lot of places to inspect the deadly radiation.

When the mission was over he returned to his home but the radiation came to his country and killed a lot of people, and Peter’s family among them.

Was this the end of the world?

The most important characters of this book are: Moira Davidson, Peter & Mary Holmes, John Osborne and Dwight Lionel Towers. Moira Davidson was an unemployed and lazy lady. When she met Dwight, her character changed and she became a kind woman that liked to work. Dwight Lionel Towers was the admiral in the U.S. Submarine “Scorpion”. He was a brave and good man that liked helping other people. He was also smart because he solved problems. John Osborne was a scientist. He was also a very smart man and he knew a lot about the radiation. He was an important person in the book because he helped a lot in the two trips that the submarine “Scorpion” made. Mary Holmes was a helpful and kind woman. She didn’t work but she took care of her little daughter. She didn’t like to meet foreigners. Peter Holmes was a nice man and he worked as a Lieutenant Commander. He liked working so he wasn’t lazy. He liked to meet new people and we can understand that when he invited an unknown person to live in his house.

I do not think that I have any similarity with anyone of these characters. My favourite character in this book is Dwight, because he was a hard worker and brave person. I do not like at all the character of Moira Davidson.

Nuclear war does not give anything good to people. It destroys the nature and all the live organisms. All of us should help the peaceful organizations in order to save the earth.

In my opinion this book was interesting but I didn’t like it because I usually read other kinds of books. This book had a lot of suspense but I prefer adventure books with more fun. I read this book with a lot of happiness. In this book there were a lot of new words to learn. This project was a lot of fun.

The story is about a woman named Jane. Her father died when she was a little girl, then her mother worked for a man named Sylvester Milner, a very rich man. After a while, her mother and Jane went to live at his house in Hong Kong, the “House of a Thousand Lanterns”. Jane was living there when she met Joliffe, Sylvester’s nephew. She married him and they went to live in London. Some months later, her mother died and those days came Joliffe’s last woman. So, Jane went back to Hong Kong and she bore Joliffe’s son, Jason, and she married Sylvester. Then she met a Chinese girl named Lottie and Adam, Joliffe’s brother. Both of them were important characters to the solution of the story. Five years later, Sylvester died. After this death a lot of things happened and the mystery cleared up. It was an adventure for Jane and Jason but at the end of the story Jane married again Joliffe, because his other wife died, so Jane was a happy, rich woman and they went back to London all together where they lived happily.

The most important character is Jane. She was a strong woman. She was very clever, too. She had a flexible mind and she was a self-confident person. Another important character is Joliffe. He was a man who loved his wife very much. He was a good person even though sometimes people believe that he was bad but at the end he proved he was really good. The opposite happened with his brother Adam, another important character of the story. They both were lonely men and they didn’t like to have relations with other people. Sylvester is another important character. He was a person who wanted to learn everything about mandarins, important paintings or objects and other…He was a good person who wanted a happy life with a wife and children.

The less important characters are Lottie and Jason. Lottie was a girl who wanted to protect Jane even though she was forced by her parents to kill her. She was a very nice and sensible person. At the end Jason was a happy boy and ready to do everything. He loved kites.

My favourite character is Jane because she was so self-confident and she had the strength and the will inside her. My least favourite is Sylvester because he married Jane while she didn’t wanted him for husband. I also don’t like Adam, because he made someone believe that he was good but at the end he proved that he was a “snake”.

I don’t think that I can relate with someone of the characters, because I am not self-confident like Jane. Maybe in some way I can relate with Lottie, because I think that I’m a good and sensible girl, like her.

The message of the book is that we must never give up something we have started when we are close to the end, because we’re tired or for any reason. We must always continue until we find the truth. At the end everything will be better. Another message is that we must be self-confident and not to depend on anybody.

About that book I can say the best! It was a very interesting book and kept me in suspense all the time. I kept reading for hours. I finished it in three days. If this book continues with a sequel I want to read it, too.

At the end of my project I can say these: It was a different project, because we had to read a book and write a report. But it was fun and it was an interesting project to do.

The book “Dangerous Game” is a very interesting story. It’s a story that William Harris wrote. He lived in his house with his wife Julie, who died twelve years ago. His wife was a very interesting woman. She loved going to parties with friends. In this book William Harris talks about a ghost who lived in his room. He called it “Poldy”. The ghost appeared at night, in his room, when he pulled the plug of his bedside light, out of its socket. Every night he played a game with Poldy. William must put back the plug in the socket before Poldy pulled it from his hand. If William won, the ghost disappeared. One day he discovered that the ghost was his dead wife’s ghost. Then William told us the truth: he murdered his wife because he was jealous of her friends. He wanted her only for himself. Day after day the ghost became evil. One day Louis, his only friend with whom he played chess every Wednesday, found him dead in his bed.

In this story there are four important characters: William, Poldy, Louis and Julie. William is a writer. He lost his wife twelve years ago. He lived in his big house alone. He rarely went out and didn’t have friends. He didn’t like going to parties or to wear suits. Poldy is a ghost who lived in William’s room. At the beginning he was funny and playful. But at the end he became a jealous and evil ghost. Julie was a very interesting person. She loved going to parties. She loved to have friends, too. Louis is a writer like William. Every Wednesday he went to William’s house to play chess.

My favourite character was Julie. I think she was an interesting and friendly person. My least favourite was William. He was so boring! He didn’t go out and he lived alone with…a ghost! I think I can relate myself with Julie because I like going to parties, going out, and having friends, too.

The message of this book is that we must have friends, go out and don’t be alone. We must be careful with our imagination because if we imagine things that don’t exist, we can become crazy.

This book is very interesting. But I didn’t like it so much because I don’t like crime stories. But the story kept me in suspense and I felt fear when I read it. This project was very fun and it was different than other ones. I loved it!

Hello! My name is Katie Maragou. I’m ready to show my project.

In this story a twelve year old boy Alan found a game “Jumanji”. He played this game with his thirteen-year-old friend, Sarah. The board began to pull Alan into it. After a lot of years, the two children, Judy and Peter, found the Jumanji. They started to play and found they must face wild animals and a hunter with a big gun. Suddenly Alan, who was thirty-eight years old, went out of the game. The three people found Sarah, who was thirty-nine years old and they tried to finish the game. The hunter, Van Pelt, wanted to kill Alan. When the game finished, Alan and Sarah were again twelve and thirteen years old. After twenty-six years, Alan and Sarah met Judy and Peter, but the two children didn’t remember the Jumanji game.

The most important characters of this book are four: Alan, Sarah, Judy and Peter. Alan is a very good person, because he risked his life saving other people. Sarah is a good-hearted woman. She smiled when the animals were ready to eat her. Judy is very cool, because she dropped the dices and saved Alan when he was in danger. Peter is a silly boy, because he didn’t play carefully and he risked his life. My favourite character is Sarah, because she smiled all the time and my least favourite character is Peter, because he was silly. I can relate with Sarah, because she is happy. She is polite with other people, like me.

The message of this book is the collaboration between people. We can’t do anything difficult without collaboration. Even little children collaborate in playing games.

I like this book, because the author uses a lot of magic. I find it interesting, because it has mystery. It kept me in suspense waiting for Alan get out of the game. I like reading this book, because it was fun. I find this project fun, because we learn things without rules and different, because we don’t write only an essay, but we read a book, too!

 I will remember these holidays, because I read my first English book! Goodbye!

Synopsis

A young lady came to a big country to teach two young beautiful children. She was alone with the housekeeper, Mrs. Grose and the servants all day. Then, strange things started to happen. She heard dreadful sounds. She saw a face on the roof of the tower and a woman at the other side of the lake. They were ghosts, because those people were dead. They wanted to take Flora and Miles away. The governess tried to help the children, but she wasn’t able to do it. In the end of the story the ghosts won.

Characters

There are a lot of important characters in this story. Mrs. Grose was a loose and nice woman. She cared for the children with all her love. The ghosts, Miss Jessel and Peter Quint were both wicked and selfish. They wanted to frighten the people who were living in that house. The governess was very good and beautiful. She taught the two children a lot of things. She was my favourite character, because she was very brave and she was trying to win the ghosts. My least favourite characters were the two children. They seemed innocent, but they were bad. I also think that I can’t relate with anyone, because I think that I’m different than all of them.

Message

The message of this book is that we must be careful with who we are friends because if they aren’t good, they can harm us. This message is very important in our lives because there are a lot of bad people in our time and we must avoid them.

Opinion

I didn’t like this book. It was interesting, but it was very dramatic and plaintive. At one moment it kept me in suspense but then it started to become boring. So I suggest to you, don’t read this book. The book wasn’t nice, but I found this new project very fun and unusual. It was the most beautiful project that I have ever done.

Hello everybody! My name is Sandy. I’m here to make a short summary of my book “The Count of Monte Cristo”. This book is written by Alexander Dumas. It is an adventure story. Edmond Pantes is a young seaman. He is the most important person in this story. Mercedes is his fiancé. She is a very beautiful woman and she is full of kindness. But Mercedes is not very lucky, because on the day of her wedding with Edmond, he was thrown into prison. There in prison he met Faria. Faria is an old man who knew about a big treasure. The treasure was on the island of Monte Cristo. One day Faria died, so Edmond escaped to find the treasure. After a long journey with a lot of difficulties, he finally found the treasure. Then he returned to Marseilles very rich and to find Mercedes.

Mercedes is a very good character because she waited for a long time until Edmond returned. Pantes is my favourite character, because he is a brave and clever man. Panglars is my least favourite character because ha wrote a letter to the judge about Edmond. The letter said bad things about Edmond.

From this book we can understand that there is a very important message. The message is that when someone is a good person, he will be awarded for his kindness. This message is very important because it gives us hope in our lives.

This book is very interesting. I liked it a lot. It kept me in suspense all the time. This project is very different and it is a lot of fun. I like reading books, so I enjoyed it a lot. Miss Athena, thank you for giving us this kind of project. Thank you very much!

  The story of the book is about an ugly man, Quasimodo, who lived in Paris. Frollo, the high priest, protected him and loved Esmeralda. She was a beautiful gypsy girl who danced for a living and loved Phoebus, another man. So Frollo wanted to harm her. One day Phoebus was hurt by someone and everyone accused Esmeralda. Finally, Frollo killed her and Quasimodo, who loved her, took revenge by killing him, too. Then he committed suicide and Phoebus married another woman.

One hero of the story was Quasimodo. He was kind-hearted and very pitiful. He was happy and patient. Esmeralda was clever and good. She was also a bit nervous. Frollo was an evil man. He was bad and very envious. My favourite character of all was Quasimodo, because he didn’t have badness in his heart. I didn’t like Frollo because he was a racist, evil, arrogant and selfish. I can relate my character with Quasimodo’s character because like him, I’m also kind-hearted and I love all people.

In this story there are a lot of messages. Love is one of them, because people who are loved have harmony. Also with goodness we live better. Finally, we must not judge the people by their appearance but by their mental beauty.

This book was wonderful. I liked it very much. I found it interesting, it was adventurous, it kept me in suspense and it had a lot of messages. I liked this project very much. It was very good and it helped me make my English better.
