A1   Helen Mereou     “My fair Lady”

The story in this book is about a poor girl Eliza Doolittle who sold flowers in the street. Professor Henry Higgins wanted to teach Eliza to speak better English and to be a real lady.

The characters in the book are Eliza who was a good girl who tried very hard to make money, to improve her English accent and to become a lady. Professor Higgins was a man who studied phonetics, the different accents of English and other languages. Colonel Pickering was a writer of books on Indian languages. Alfred Doolittle was Eliza’s father. He was lazy and he wanted money from Eliza to drink beers with his friends. Mrs. Pearce was the lady who helped Professor Higgins in his home. Freddy Hill was a man who was in love with Eliza.

My favourite character was Eliza because she tried very hard to make herself and her life better. My least favourite character was Alfred Doolittle who was lazy and who drank all the time. I can relate with Eliza’s character because I try to learn things and be better everyday.

The message in this book is that if you try very hard and work a lot, you can achieve the things you want. This message is important in our lives because it tells us how we can become better people.

I liked reading this book. It was interesting. I wanted to know what would happen at the end. This is a different and fun project. I liked it very much.

                                             A1   John Fikaris

One stormy night there was a ship at sea. In the ship there was the Swiss family Robinson. The ship was crashed on the rocks and the sailors got out of it by using the boats. But the family spent the night on the ship and when the other day came, they went on the island to stay there. After a few days, they built a Tree House and huts for the animals they had with them. The people went hunting, fishing and moreover they made a garden and they planted seeds, coconuts, sweet potatoes and plants. But when the winter came, they had bad times, because their roof was made of sailcloth. The bad thing was that the wind was so strong, that they couldn’t light a fire. On top of that, the rain and the wooden floor were not helping them at all. After winter, they made a farm and then they went to live in a cave. It was really hard work, because the rock was difficult to break. Two years after, the oldest son called Fritz made a canoe, so they built it. He wanted to explore the other side of the island. It was when he met Jenny. The day after, Fritz and his father went to pick up Jenny, in order to go to the cave house. After a couple of months, a ship showed up to take Jenny and then Fritz went with them, too. The others stayed back on the island though, in order to come back later.

The important characters are: the Father of the family who had some activities. The oldest son Fritz, who wanted a canoe and he was a good son. The other son called Ernest, was the laziest of all, but he was a good son, too. The greatest son of all was Jack, because he helped his mother and his father even though he was the youngest one! My favourite character is Fritz and I can relate myself with him. The least favourite though is Jack.

The “message” of the book is that no matter what you can always do something to make your life better. Not to mention that people should work with each other.

The book was interesting enough and I enjoyed it! Moreover it kept me in suspense. Generally speaking, I consider this project as something different and unusual!

                                        A1   Mike Malachias

Gulliver went to four places. The first place that he went was Lilliput. Lilliput was in a war with Blefuscu. Their people were very small and they were afraid of him the first time. But Gulliver stopped the war and the people were very happy with him. A few months later, an English ship went to England. Gulliver went with his new ship to sea again but a storm took him to Brobdingnag. They were very tall people. There, Gulliver made a new friend, a girl. She made a small house for Gulliver and he lived there. In the third place where he went, there were only horses. The horses had slaves, the Yahoos. The Yahoos were people millions of years before.

There are many characters. There was a very clever king in Lilliput, a girl who was a very good friend, a very angry horse and some stupid yahoos. I like Gulliver the best, I don’t like Yahoos. I can relate with the queen because she was clever, happy and she did not like money. But she was a girl and I am a boy.

The message of the book is that a human can’t forget his family. This book was very interesting and adventurous. When I read the book, it had much suspense. This project wasn’t very difficult and it was very interesting.

A1   Katie Maragou   “The hunchback of Notre-Dame”

Hello! I’m Kate. I’ll describe my book “The hunchback of Notre-Dame”.

In this beautiful story Quasimodo, an ugly, deaf and hunchback man, lived under the production of the priest in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. One day he met Esmeralda, a gypsy girl, and he fell in love with her. The priest Father Claude Frollo loved her, too! Esmeralda was a beautiful, good girl! She loved Phoebus, the officer of the King’s Guard. Phoebus used Esmeralda to become famous. One night, Frollo the priest, said to Phoebus: “You must go to a hotel with your gypsy girl. I will go with you and I will keep her”. In the hotel Frollo kept Esmeralda and he went to kill her, but Quasimodo saved her. Esmeralda thought that Frollo killed Phoebus. One day the gypsies and the thieves from the city of Thieves wanted to take Esmeralda out of the Cathedral. Her husband, a bad man handed her over to the soldiers and they killed her. Quasimodo, when he learned that Esmeralda was dead, killed Frollo and at the end he died, too!

The most important characters of this book are four: Frollo, Quasimodo, Esmeralda and Phoebus. Quasimodo was a good person, because he saved Esmeralda. Esmeralda was a sentimental girl, because she looked into people’s heart, not their appearance. Frollo was a bad man, because he wanted to kill Esmeralda. Phoebus was a silly person, because he used Esmeralda to become rich. My favourite character of this book was Esmeralda, because she was sweet and my least favourite was Frollo, because he was bad. I can relate with Quasimodo, because I’m good-hearted like him.

The message of this book is that you must look into people’s hearts. With this message our lives are happy and easy.

I liked this book, because it had a lot of love and emotions. It was very interesting, because it talked about people’s cruelty. It kept me in suspense when above Phoebus’s head Esmeralda saw Frollo with the knife. I like reading this book in general, because it’s very-very beautiful. This kind of project was fun, because we learned things easily and differently, because we read an English book, not a Greek book. I like this book a lot…

A1   Evi Vogiatzi   “The Count of Monte Cristo”

Hello! My name is Evi. Two days ago I read a fantastic book, “The Count of Monte Cristo”. It talks about a young seaman from Marseilles, Edmond Dantes. On the day of his wedding to the beautiful Mercedes, his enemies, Caderousse and Danglars, wanted to destroy him. They told lies about him and threw him in prison. There, he met Farias, a wise and clever man, who wanted to escape. Farias told him about a treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. A few years later, Farias, who was very ill, died. After that, Dantes escaped. Seamen took him on their ship, the Young Amelia. There he made a new friend, Jacopo, and found a job on the ship. One day, they reached the island of Monte Cristo. There he found the treasure, but he went back to shore without it. He bought a new boat and with this he brought it to Marseilles. There he met Mercedes and his father again. After his father died, he sailed to the Mediterranean sea with Mercedes.

In this story there are eight important characters: Edmond Dantes, Mercedes, Dantes’s father, Farias, Jacopo, Caderousse and Danglars.

Edmond Dantes: Edmond is a twenty-year-old seaman who lived in Marseilles. He is clever and wise. He loves his father and Mercedes. He is a great friend, too.

Mercedes: Mercedes is a beautiful and sweet woman who loved Dantes.

Dantes’s father: He is an old and poor man. He lived in a small old house in Marseilles.

Farias: Farias is a wise and clever man. He went to prison four years before Dantes. He was the helper of Prince Spada. He told Dantes about the treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. He was very ill, so he died.

Jacopo: He is a seaman. He worked on the Young Amelia, a ship. He is also very kind. He became Dantes’s favourite friend.

Caderousse & Danglars: They are Edmond’s enemies. They were jealous of him because he was going to become the captain of his ship and was getting married to beautiful Mercedes. At last when Edmond returned home, Danglars left the country and Caderousse was very poor.

My favourite character is Edmond because he is clever and wise. He was a great seaman, too. My least favourite are Caderousse and Danglars. They are liars, and bad and jealous men. I think that I can relate myself with Jacopo because I like helping people and have friends, too.

Message: The message of the book is that we must be careful with choosing our friends because sometimes they can hurt us. The second message is that love can do everything.

This book was fantastic! I loved it! It kept me in suspense. I liked reading it in general. It was a very interesting book.

A1   Anna Pitsiladi   “My Fair Lady”

The story is about a gypsy girl who sold flowers. She met a rich man who helped her learn how to speak good English without a strong London accent.

A character of this book is Eliza. She was kind hearted and she was very patient. Professor Higgins was a clever person and he was very charitable. In my opinion, I like Higgins’s character very much, because he turned a gypsy girl into a lady. I don’t like Eliza’s character because she was a bit of an egoist. I can relate my character with Higgins’s because like him I’m kind hearted and I can make friends. My favourite character is Higgins because I’m sympathetic with everyone.

This book hasn’t got many messages. Love is one of them, because with it we live better and we must help people. I didn’t like this book very much, because it didn’t have an ending. But this project was wonderful because it helped me write new sentences.

A1   Sandy Michailidi   “The Turn of the Screw”

Hello everybody! My name is Sandy! I’m here to make a short summary of the book “The Turn of the Screw”. This book was written by Henry James. It is a thriller. In this story the most important person was the governess. This young lady goes to a big country house to teach two beautiful children. Then strange things started to happen. The children’s names were Flora and Miles. The two children have lost their parents so this woman came to be their governess. While she was staying at the house, two ghosts appeared to take the children away. She had to protect them. But Flora got sick from a ghost so the governess was afraid and wanted the girl to leave. then she talked for a long time with Miles about the ghosts. One day Miles died from the ghost.

The governess was my favourite character because she helped the children. My least favourite characters were the ghosts because they wanted to take the children away.

From this book we can understand that there isn’t a very important message because it is a thriller. This book was good. Sometimes it kept me in suspense. It was a pleasure to read this book. Sometimes I was afraid but now I know that was a lot of fun. Sometimes it was great and sometimes it was awful.

                                  Thank you very much!

A1   Helen Mereou   “Gulliver’s Travels”

The story is about a young man, Gulliver, who travelled with his father and his four brothers. He was the youngest of all. The ship broke and they fell into the water. Gulliver lost the other men. Then he went to Lilliput, where little people lived. Some months later, he went to Blefuscu to steal some ships to go to England. In England he made money, he bought a house and made a family. Then he travelled to Brobdingnag. There were giants, there was a farmer with his wife and his daughter. The King also lived in this town and Queen, he visited them. He went to England again. He travelled to Houyhnhnms and Yahoos. There were horses and something like monkeys. Then Gulliver went home and he didn’t travel again.

The characters are: Gulliver, who was a young man who loved to travel. Glumdaclitch, who was a girl who helped Gulliver. Farmer, who was a man who wanted to kill Gulliver after he made money. The horse, that helped Gulliver. It gave him food and water and a house, too.

Gulliver learned that in every place there are good things and bad things. He learned things in every land that he went to. I liked this story book but it had difficult words and it was a little bit strange.

A1   John Fikaris   “Dangerous Game”

Hello! I’m John and I’m writing a story about the book “Dangerous Game”. At the beginning, William Harris, the writer of the story, was in his house without his wife, because she was dead. After her death, William continued his life, but not normally. The night after Julie’s death, we don’t know why, but he pulled the plug out of its socket when he went to bed (that was strange and it was the first time he did that). A poltergeist appeared and since that night, William was playing that game for twelve years and it was a good one! But one night Poldy (that was the poltergeist’s name), broke the rules and William was playing a dangerous game with an evil ghost at the end.

The important characters of the story were: William Harris, the writer of the story. His best and only friend Louis, who was going to William’s house to play chess on Wednesdays and who was typing the story, too. Also Julie, who was William’s wife was a beautiful woman and she wanted to go out or call friends at her house. And the last one, Poldy the poltergeist, who was friendly and playful, but he was evil and bad at the end. My favourite character was Louis, because he typed the story. My least favourite was William, because he wrote the story. I cannot relate myself with one of them.

The “message” of the book is that if you do something to a person who loves you, it is going to happen to you too, after a while. I didn’t like this book, because it was a crime story and crime stories are what I hate most! The book kept me in suspense and it was different than the others book I read in the past.

A1   Joanna Mendonidi   “Tom Sawyer”

Tom Sawyer was a young boy with a great need of adventure but he was always in trouble because he was doing crazy things and his aunt was getting angry all the time. He was living near Mississippi and he liked playing there with his friends. One day they were looking for a “treasure” but instead of it, they discovered that two evil men were going to take some stolen gold to another place. they liked adventure so they decided to follow them. They were having a real adventure and they were excited, but they were in danger too, because it wasn’t a game, it was reality.

I think that the main characters of this book were three, Tom Sawyer and the two evil men. Tom was a brave young man with a great need of adventure. He became excited easily and he was in trouble all the time! The two men were very evil because they stole things. I think I can relate my character with Tom’s because I like adventure too but I don’t think I’m brave. I think that my character is much more different than the two evil people!

The message of the book is that you must never say never before you see what you can do.

I didn’t really like this book at first, because it was boring, but then, when the real adventure started, it kept me in suspense and I didn’t want to stop reading it!

                            A1   Aristina Leventouri   “Jumanji”

In the year 1869 in a small town in the USA, two brothers buried a very dangerous game called Jumanji in a hole under some trees. A hundred years later, a boy finds it and starts playing it with a girl called Sarah. With the first throw of the dice, Alan goes inside the board-game and disappears. After twenty-six years, two children, Peter and Judy, decide to finish Jumanji. Then Alan appears again, but now he is thirty-eight years old. Then he finds Sarah and together they help the children finish it. They had to fight with wild animals but in the end of the story, Alan is able to finish Jumanji.

There are a lot of important characters in this story. Alan was very brave and decisive. He wanted to finish this dangerous game in any case. Sarah was very good and beautiful. She wanted to help Alan and the children finish Jumanji. Peter was my least favourite character because he was a bit silly but if he didn’t catch the board-game, they weren’t going to finish it. Judy was a very happy and lovely girl. She was my favourite character because she was afraid of the wild animals but she tried to be brave. I also think that I can relate with her because she was very clever.

The message of this book is that with the collaboration we are able to do a lot of difficult things. This message is very important in our lives because if we collaborate with other people we can do unbelievable things.

I liked this book very much. It was interesting and it kept me in suspense. I found it very nice and happy. It was really great. I also think that this new project is fantastic and a lot of fun.

B1   Hara Voulgari   “The Day of the Jackai”

A secret organisation planned to assassinate the French President General de Gaulle. Their leader, Colonel Marc Rodin, decided to hire a professional, someone unknown to the French police. He and his men chose “the Jackai”. He was an Englishman, from London. He agreed to do this job. He made unreal papers and identity card with another name. So it was difficult for the police to find him. Nobody knew his real name. The Jackai bought a special gun and he started to plan when, where and how he could murder the President. The policemen found a detective, Glaude Lebel, to help them. The day of the Jackai came. It was a day that de Gaulle attended a special festival. The Jackai went into a tall building. He was ready, with his gun to fire. At that time, Lebel opened the door of the room. Lebel fired the Jackai, before he murdered de Gaulle. Now the President was safe. The day of the Jackai had ended.

Jackai was a tall Englishman with fair hair and cold, blue eyes. He killed for money. Lebel was a short man with black hair and dark black eyes. He was really the best detective in France. Marc Rodin, the leader of the organisation, was a very tall man with brown hair and eyes. He was good looking but inside was a devil. My favourite character was Glaude Lebel. He was very clever and he was ready to help the police when they need his help. I didn’t like the Jackai. He was a very bad man and he liked only himself. I can’t relate myself with any of the characters.

The message of this story is: Don’t ever try to do something bad to another person because it is going to be boomerang. The truth always wins.

I didn’t like this book very much, because it has got a lot of names and new words. But I think, that I did a good project. I tried to do my best.

                                      B1   Jimmy Karabourniotis

Michael Brock was a lawyer and he worked for Drake and Sweemey. One day a homeless man attacked him. Since then Mike started to hate his job. So he wanted to start a job that was better. So he started working with Mordecai Green. Their job was to work in a shelter and help the homeless. One day Mike found a secret about his old job. That they made evictions the tenants and the homeless. The evictions were illegal. Mike found out from a file that he took. Mike met a homeless woman and her children in the shelter. But they died in their home. Drake and Sweemey would pay millions of dollars to the homeless but Mike lost his license for nine months.

Michael was a smart man. He was a good worker and a man who cared about people, especially the homeless and he was helpful, too. That’s why he was my favourite. Green was a very helpful man and he was smart because he helped Mike in the Lawsuit. Mister was a very bad man and a silly one too, because he attacked Mike in his office. Hector Palma was a good man but he was a man who was very smart, too.

The message was great. It tells us that we must help the street people even if we aren’t rich. If we are rich we must give them a lot if money, because they are people too and if we were poor, would they give us money?

The book was great. In the beginning I thought that it wouldn’t be good but I was taken by the mystery. It was a lot of fun and I want to read it again.

B1   Angelina Kalogeraki   “The Client”

The story is about an eleven-year-old boy named Mark Sway. He knew where a body was hidden. With the body the FBI could prove a Mafia murder. Mark wanted to be honest, but he also wanted to be safe. He was afraid of telling his secret because he knew that the Mafia would never forget. His younger brother was sick and his mother couldn’t leave the hospital. Mark then found an unusual lawyer. She alone had to protect the Sway family from the law and the killers. But she had help: Mark was a clever client. They both had a lot of adventures but at the end they went to live in another city.

My favourite character was the lawyer because she was a very strong woman who wanted to help Mark with one dollar. The most important character was Mark, a boy with his father. He had to protect himself and his family. Another important character was the lawyer, but I have already talked about her.

The message of the book is that we must try for the good. We mustn’t hide behind our finger. The book was very exciting and it kept me in suspense. I like mysteries and this is why I loved this book. I kept reading it in the car…

About this project I can say that it was difficult and different but it was fun! Thank you and bye!

B1   Tasos Geomelos   “On the Beach”

Hello! I am going to tell you about the book “On the Beach”. The story tells us about a family. This family wanted to live a normal life in Australia after the war. Peter Holmes who was a member of the family went on his last appointment. He went to test the radiation at Cairns. When he came back, the radiation had reached Australia and everybody was dead.

The main characters of the story are: Peter Holmes who was the antagonist of the story. He was clever and could solve every serious problem. John Osborne who was a scientist. He was clever, a good person and he helped at the appointment. Moira Davidson who didn’t have a job and when she met Dwight she changed to good, because she loved him. Mary Holmes who didn’t have a job too, she took care of her daughter and she was very kind. Dwight was on Admiral, he was a very good person. My favourite character was Peter Holmes, because he tried to survive and my least favourite character was Moira Davidson, because she was drinking a lot.

I think that the messages of the story are: 1)Wars are a very bad thing and not a good thing 2)We must try for a better world.

This book was a new challenge for me. It was very interesting and full of suspense and full of new words. This project was a lot of fun, entertaining and tiring.

                                                                                         Goodbye!

This story is about a famous young girl, Alessia Cenci. One day some kidnappers kidnapped Alessia. After this, her dad tried to get back Alessia and he sent Andrew Douglas to find her. After the kidnappers kidnapped Dominic Nerrity in England and Morgan Freemantle in the United States. But the strange thing about all the kidnapping is that it has to do with the world.

The main characters of this book are Alessia Cenci and Andrew Douglas. My least favourite character was Giuseppe-Peter because he gave orders to the kidnappers. I can relate with Andrew Douglas because I like to search for mysterious things.

The message is that we must care and help other people and we mustn’t kidnap them.

I think this book was very interesting and it kept me in suspense. This book wasn’t fun and entertaining.

B1   Kiriaki Linou   “Nicolas Nickleby”   by   Charles Dickens

Hello! My name is Kiriaki Linou. I’m twelve years old and I’m a good student. With my essay I will describe to you the story of the book “Nicolas Nickleby”.

Once upon a time there was a man named Nicolas. After his father’s death, Nicolas had no money, no job and a family to support. His only hope was his Uncle Ralph, a cold-hearted money-lender with unpleasant and dangerous friends. But Nicolas and his family couldn’t find happiness and his uncle wanted to destroy them. But Nicolas found happiness, because he did a bad thing to his uncle and he got married at the end.

Nicolas was a very clever, good and kind person, who cared about other people and of course, about his family. The uncle was a very evil man who cared about himself and of course, he was very eccentric. Madeline, Nicolas’s wife, was a very good and clever person, who cared about other people. My favourite character was Nicolas because he was a hard working person. My least favourite character was Uncle Ralph because he hated other people. I can relate with Nicolas because we are similar characters. We are both hard working people.

I found this book important and interesting because it gives us a message which is necessary in our lives: We must love and care about our relatives. I adored this book and I found it interesting and very well-written.

                             Thank you very much!

                                  B1   Steve Melis   “Zenda”

Hello! My name is Steve Melis and I am writing about an adventure story! The story begins…! A young man who was about thirty years old was looking for excitement! He was called Rudolf Rossendyll. His brother’s wife accused him of not doing anything. So he decided to write a book. But in order to do that he had to go on a trip. He preferred to go to the town of Zenda where he met the new King and his servants, Sapt and Fritz. These people were looking for a person who looked like the King. The King and his servants invited Rudolf for a dinner, because they believed that he was the only person who resembled the King. Consequently, they became good friends. In that town there was a Duke whose name was Black Michael. This man wanted to kill the King so he could take his position. One day he and his servants went to the King’s house. They offered him food as a present from the Duke. But the food was drugged and the King fell asleep. Sapt claimed that nobody in the town wanted the Duke as a King. Rudolf was the only person who could substitute the King because he looked like him. Finally, Rudolf, Sapt and Fritz managed to release the real King who was kidnapped by the servants of Black Michael.

The main characters in the story are Rudolf Rossendyll, the King, Sapt, Fritz and Black Michael. My favourite character was Rudolf because he tried a lot to free the King. My less favourite character was Black Michael because he tried to kill an innocent person. I could relate with Rudolf because he was very trustful and brave. There is also a similarity between Rudolf and me. That’s because I believe that if someone trusts me, I will never betray him.

The message of this book is that if you are good and right in your life, you will always be rewarded with the better way.

In my opinion, it was an interesting book because it kept me in suspense. I could say that I was bored in the first part of the book but later I changed my mind. It had a good plot. I learned a lot of new words but I looked them up in the dictionary.
