Thoughts about our everyday lives.

Evi Fragou

Every day we are faced with a fact. These days more than three hundred crimes happen every day. So, self-defence is very important. The importance of self-defence is that we can protect ourselves when we are in trouble or if thieves are around our house and want to steal our valuables. We must lock our doors and windows, have a safe for our valuables, have a dog outside our houses and leave the television or the lights on at night when we go out. We can also take up karate lessons or learn other techniques so we can knock out the criminals. We need to help ourselves!

Angelina Kalogeraki

You’re going back home with your best friend and suddenly you hear strange noises behind you. You turn and you see a scary guy with a gun. What are you going to do? You must protect yourself. How? By learning the importance of self-defence. You should study karate or boxing to protect yourself.

Some other kinds of ways except karate or boxing to protect yourself are to have a stun gun or a whistle. You can also have rear-view sunglasses but the best solution is to know self-defence. That makes you feel safer and have more self-confidence.

An important thing for everyone in his/her life is to know how to protect him/herself. For that reason there are a lot of schools which teach everyone about that art. It is also very useful for people who live in big cities, because criminals always live in those big communities. So, everyone must protect him/herself, and if anyone tries to attack him/her, he/she will be ready to disable the attacker!

You are walking down a quiet dark street alone. Suddenly someone comes out of the shadows towards you. He has a knife in his hand. What can you do? How can you protect yourself?

An important thing that helps you is self-defence. With self-defence you can protect yourself most of the time and a few times you can fight back. Instructors in courses for self-defence teach people self-defence and some rules. Courses in self-defence teach people that no one is allowed to annoy, hurt or laugh at others. The courses give us confidence and teach us when to fight back.

“Farewell, My love”

Moose Malloy, a bank robber, left prison to find the person who betrayed him and Velma(his girlfriend).

He went to the bar where Velma was working, but her boss didn’t really help him, so Moose killed him. But Philip Marlowe, a detective, tried to find him.

One night, a man, Marriott, called him to tell him about some thieves who had stolen his girlfriend’s diamond, her name was Mrs. Grayle. Marriott wanted to meet the thieves with Marlowe, so he asked him. Later, Marlowe found Marriott dead. There was a psychiatrist’s card in his pocket and Marlowe visited him. While they were talking, someone hit him and he woke up in a mental hospital, where Moose Malloy was hiding.

One night, Moose Malloy went to Marlowe’s home, and so did Mrs. Grayle. Moose remembered that he had heard her voice once again. It was Velma and he remembered that she had told his name the police. He tried to shoot her, but she was faster, so she killed him and the she killed herself.

Moose Malloy was a big and tall man. He was a bank robber and a criminal. Velma Valento was a mysterious woman. These are the main characters of the book. I don’t think I can relate myself with them, because they’re really evil!

This book was very good. I liked it a lot and it was exactly what I like to read. It kept me in suspense and when I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down.

The message which this book gives us is that if we search for something we will finally find it, and if we really want something, we do it in the end.

Vandalism in schools is a serious problem and there is vandalism in my school, too. It’s not a really serious kind of vandalism but it is one.

Some of the students come to our school and write on the walls. They sometimes write bad things but sometimes their graffiti is very nice. They have painted the wall three times this year but they don’t seem to care about this.

I think that, they think when they write on the walls they look cool and that the others think they’re better. If we see one of these students we must report it to a teacher or to the headmaster to stop vandalism.

In my school many children paint and draw on desks or even on chairs.

I think the reason is that the children get bored and don’t watch the teacher, so they draw or paint everywhere, on books, desks, chairs and walls.

I think that the solution is: the teachers should check the desks and the chairs everyday and punish the children that draw and paint on them.

Evi Vogiatzi-

One day in my dream I was among some leaves. I stood up and I understood that I was in the jungle. I saw a monkey who was eating its banana. I saw a colourful parrot with its big wings flying towards me. I gave it a coconut and it became my friend. I walked among some flowers and I heard a voice. My parrot left quickly and I followed it. I saw a little polar bear in a big box and a man in a big hole in the ground. He needed help. I helped him and we put the white bear in a helicopter. It will take the bear back to its home. The man’s name was Tim. He was from an American Zoo and he came here to rescue the animals. We walked for a long time. It was night when we stopped. We were both tired. We sat around a fire and started talking. Suddenly we heard a BAM and ran quickly. An hour later, something touched me on my back. I turned and I saw my colourful parrot. Its wing was broken so he couldn’t fly. I tied its wing carefully and I put it on my arm.

The next day, I woke up and I wasn’t in the same place. I was in a temple. Strange men were dancing around a fire. It was dark. My parrot showed me the exit to the temple. I took Tim and we left. Some days later, we found the animals and we put them in a helicopter. But the strange men came again. They took us and I heard a strange noise… “Evi! Wake up, it’s Monday! Did you forget that?”. I woke up and I saw in the kitchen a big breakfast. Everything was just a dream.

My dream is very beautiful and romantic. It’s just like a fairy tail. I was a princess. My name was Vanilla Concerto Pe Granche Fatono Grene. That was my real name. My nickname was Vanilla. my parents died when I was young. In fact, when I was five. I had the worst stepmother in the world. She was Denny Bad. She knew about my parents’ treasure. So she protected me because one day she thought I would tell her everything about the treasure and the she would kill me.

One day under my bed I found a box. I opened the box. There was a letter. It said: “Dear Vanilla, we are your parents. I think you don’t know about the treasure. The treasure is in the kingdom of Far Far Away. Someone will help you but we don’t know yet. We will help you. Now leave this house, run into the forest. Go straight ahead. Good luck!  With love, your parents”.

After that I ran away. I was running as fast as I could and I fell down. Then someone gave to me a hand. I woke up. I wasn’t in the forest. I was in the biggest room in the world. I saw a man. He was a prince. I said: -“Where am I? Who are you?”

–“Relax. I’m Prince Ronald Farito Ceteve Da Vante Pare. But you can call me Ronald. Now tell me who are you?”

–“I’m Vanilla Concerto Pe Granche Fatono Grene. I’m a princess”.

–“Do you know that you are in a palace?”

-“No. Where am I?”

-“You are in my father’s kingdom. The kingdom of Far Far Away”.

-“I’m here. Yes!!! Can I find my treasure?”

-“How do you know about our treasure?”

-“It was my parents’. I found a letter. I read it. It said about the kingdom of Far Far Away and the treasure”.

-“OK. Stay here. I will come back in a minute”.

After that he came back with a ring. He told me: -“If we find the treasure, will you marry me?”

-“Hmmm……….I think ………Yes!!”

Then we found the treasure. It was the most beautiful day in my life. We left from there and we went to the biggest kingdom of Happy For Ever. Then I woke up and said: “Where am I?’’

      Dear Samantha,

How are you? I hope you and your family are very well. We are fine. Last night I had a dream, that I was in Australia. I visited you and I stayed with you at your home. We visited the aquarium. We saw many colourful fish there. Some of them were small and some of them were big. We saw big sharks and dolphins. In my dream you were afraid of the sharks. In my dream also we went to have lunch. I ate fish with chips and you ate potatoes and corn. For dessert we had great big ice-creams. Your ice-cream was vanilla and lemon flavour and mine was chocolate and strawberry flavour. Then we visited the MELBOURNE 100. We saw many animals there. We saw lions and tigers. They slept under the trees. We saw tall giraffes and very big elephants but my favourite were the kangaroos. They were having lunch. They had baby kangaroos in their pouches. We saw two big white bears that were swimming under a waterfall. There was a monkey with a hat on its head. That was very funny.

All this was in my dream. I wish it was real.

Anna Pitsiladi

Last night I had a very nice dream. I was in a beautiful town. Its name was Babalouda. It was a town near the sea. There were a lot of buildings. They were colourful. There weren’t many houses. There was a park and a big beach. There were a lot of flowers and trees. The beach had a lot of children and parents in the sea. The sun shone and it was a very warm day. I was walking near the sea when I heard a voice saying “Help please, help!”. I followed the voice and I found who wanted help. I ran quickly. It was a girl. She was swimming and something was holding her leg. By a boat I went next to her and pulled her up. Her leg was red. The next day I saw her. She was very well.

Suddenly, I heard someone: “Anna, wake up, you must go to school”. It was my mother. My dream had finished but I think about this dream everyday.

Aristina Leventouri   “The hunchback of Notre-Dame”

Ugly and unwanted by the outside world, Quasimodo, the hunchback lived under the protection of the priest Claude Frollo in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. Then a beautiful gypsy girl, named Esmeralda, arrived and brought pain and suffering into their quiet lives. Father Claude Frollo fell in love with her and he had the need to escape from his life as a priest. The cathedral had become a prison that stopped him finding love. But Esmeralda loved a silly officer called Phoebus. The priest couldn’t stand it and one night he struck Phoebus. Everyone believed that Phoebus was dead and Esmeralda was his murderer. They wanted to hang her but Quasimodo helped her. She lived in the Notre-Dame but death awaited her outside. In these difficult moments Esmeralda found her mother. Her mother tried to help her live but she didn’t accomplish it. After Esmeralda’s death Quasimodo disappeared and was never seen again.

There were four main characters in this story. The first was Quasimodo. He was ugly and he had a hump on his back. He was very strong and the people were afraid of him, but he had a gold heart. Esmeralda was my favourite character. She was beautiful and clever. She danced very well. She was also very brave. I think I can relate with her for all these reasons. Father Claude Frollo, the third character, was a good person but his love for Esmeralda made him crazy. He couldn’t control his evil actions. My least favourite character was the officer Phoebus. He was silly and a very good liar. He didn’t love Esmeralda. He didn’t do anything to save her. He was really terrible. That’s all about the characters.

There was a very important message in this story. This is that we mustn’t scorn ugly people. They aren’t nice to us but perhaps they have a gold heart and they can give us help when we are in danger, like in this story.

I think this book was great. It taught to me a lot of things and it gave me information about the life in Paris these years. The story was exciting. There was good and evil, hate and love, life and death. All people were real. I didn’t like the end very much, but in general it was wonderful.

Evi Vogiatzi   “My fair Lady” by Alan Jan Lerner

In England, years ago, lived a flower seller, named Eliza Doolittle. She wanted to be a real lady. She was from a poor family and she had a father who drank all day with his friends in a pub. One day due to an accident she met two famous people: Colonel Pickering & Professor Henry Higgins. A few days later, she convinced Professor Higgins to teach her how to speak English, without a strong London accent, so she could be a lady and she could go to fine parties and balls. She wanted to become rich! At last, she managed to become a rich lady and she fell in love with Higgins. But Freddy Eynford Hill fell in love with Eliza, too. But she preferred to marry Higgins.

The characters in my book were:

Eliza: Eliza was a poor flower seller. She had a strong London accent. Her wish was to become rich and a real lady.

Professor Higgins: He was the writer of Higgins Universal Alphabet. He could teach people how to speak good English without a London accent. He was in love with Eliza.

Colonel Pickering: He studied the languages of India and he wrote books about Indian languages.

Alfred Doolittle: He was Eliza’s father. He was a poor man. He couldn’t find a job so he drank all day with his friends.

Freddy E.H.: He was a rich man who fell in love with Eliza. He was a bit silly because he spent all day in front of Eliza’s house waiting to see her.

I don’t think that I can relate myself with one of these characters. But my favourite was Eliza because she really wanted to be a lady. My least favourite was Freddy because he was silly.

The first message of this book is that we can find a solution to every problem in our life. The second message is that with a good teacher you can learn a lot of things(like with Miss Athena).

This book was very good! It was interesting but it didn’t keep me in suspense. I liked reading it in general. This project was fun!

Sandy Michailidi

Hello everybody! My name is Sandy. I’m here to make a short summary of the book “The Swiss Family Robinson”. This book was written by Johann Wyss. It is an adventure story. Father was the most important person. He did all the hard work. Fritz, Ernest and Jack sometimes helped their father. On the seventh day of the storm the family was still on the ship. And they were on the board when it sank. After that, they landed on a small island. First, they lived on the beach but when the winter came, they made a Tree House. It was very difficult to leave so they went to live in a cave. After two years, father became old. The children were men so they did all the work. One day Fritz made a canoe and he wanted to go to the other part of the island. There he met a girl. The girl came with him. After one or two days, a ship came for the girl. The ship took the family and the girl.

My favourite character was the father because he did everything for his children. I think that there wasn’t a bad character. From this book we can understand that there is a very important message. The message is that when people are united, they can do very important things. Just like with this family. They were close and united together, so they survived on the island. So we understand that when people are united, they can do great things than a man alone.

This book was good. I liked it a lot. You know that all the adventure books are good. And just like that I want to continue reading English books.

                                                                              Thank you very much!

Kate Maragou   “The turn of the Screw” by Henry James

Hello! I’m Kate Maragou and I’m ready to describe my book. The name of this book is “The turn of the Screw”. In this story, a young lady goes to a big country house to teach two children. One day when this lady was in the garden she saw a ghost. She told Mrs Grose that she saw this ghost. This house was hers. After that the teacher realised it was a woman ghost. Flora, one of the children saw it, too. The lady wanted to protect them, but the two children wanted to be bad. The two ghosts wanted to kill Miles, the other child. The young lady tried to show Mrs Grose the ghosts. Mrs Grose couldn’t see them. Finally, Flora was angry with the teacher and Miles died.

The most important characters of this book were the teachers, Miles, Flora and Mrs Grose. The teacher was very good because she loved the bad children. The two children were evil and bad, because they liked ghosts. Mrs Grose was friendly, because she liked all the people. My favourite character was the teacher, because she was young and good. My least favourite character was Flora, because she was evil. I can relate with Mrs Grose, because she was friendly and polite, like me.

The message of this book is that we mustn’t be bad. When we are bad, we haven’t got friends. We are alone and unhappy.

I didn’t like this book, because it didn’t have many good characters. I found it interesting because it described a big house. It kept me in suspense. I didn’t like reading this book in general, because it had a lot of ghosts. This kind of project is fun, because the books haven’t got rules and it is different, because we learn a lot of things about bad and good people.

I want to close my essay with a “Goodbye”!
