Katie Maragou   “Gulliver’s Travels”

Hello, everybody! I’m Katie Maragou and I will describe my book “Gulliver’s Travels”.

Gulliver was a person who loved the sea. He started to travel. A day after a heavy rainstorm he was on an island. There was a town: Lilliput. The people in this town were as small as a mosquito. These people were afraid of Gulliver and they put strings on his body. The town Lilliput made war with Blefuscu and Gulliver tried to help them. One day he saw a boat. He came near it and he climbed on it. After this he was very ill, but he travelled again. This time he went to another island. There was the town of Brobdingnag. Very tall people lived there. A farmer took Gulliver in his house, but soon the King took him to his palace. Gulliver became friends with the queen. The King asked him about his country, England. Gulliver had a house for himself. When he was in the sea with the King and the queen a big bird took him with his small house. After that, Gulliver fell in the sea and there people found him. In his last travel he went to the town of Houyhnhnms. The Houyhnhnms were like horses. They had ugly and dirty servants: the Yahoos. The Yahoos were like people. In this town he learned a lot of things. Soon he returned home and his travels stopped.

The only important character was Gulliver. Gulliver was a person who liked to learn things. He was very very good, because he didn’t kill a small person in the Lilliput. I can relate with him. He was a good and clever person like me.

The message is that a person wants to learn a lot about the bad and the good things. With this message we will understand our mistakes and the wars will stop. Then we will be very happy.

I liked this book because it was funny. It was very interesting, because it had mystery. It kept me in suspense. I liked reading this book in general, because it was interesting. This kind of project is better than the others. We learn many new words. It’s different and a lot of fun.

Michael Malachias

Eliza Doolittle was a girl without money. One day she met Freddy. She was from North England and she had a bad pronunciation and he tried to teach her to speak probably. Some months later, her dad Alfred went to Freddy to bring his daughter back home but Freddy didn’t let her. He wanted money. Freddy gave him some money and he left. Some days later, Eliza became a beautiful, young lady. Freddy asked her to marry him. She said “yes”.

There weren’t many characters in the book. Only a teenager, Eliza, Professor Freddy and Alfred who was a bad man.

The message of the book is that all the girls have in themselves a lady. This book was very interesting and funny. It had much suspense when I read it. This project was a lot of fun. I didn’t like this book very much because it hadn’t any adventure or mystery.

Anna Pitsiladi   “The Dangerous Game”

The story of the book is about a writer and a ghost. William Harris had a beautiful wife but she died. One day William heard something. It was the ghost. Its name was Poldy. They began to play a game. But the game began to change. Finally William’s friend, Louis, found him on his bed. He was dead.

One hero of the story was William. He was friendly and he had a very good character. Poldy was an evil ghost. He was bad, very bad. My favourite character of all was William because he was good. I can relate my character with Harry’s because he was very friendly. I can’t relate my character with Poldy’s because he was bad.

There is one message in this book. We mustn’t trust everybody. I liked very much this book because it was a perfect story. It had adventure and it was interesting.

Helen Mereou   “The Swiss Family Robinson”

The story in this book is about a family who got lost at sea. Their ship crashed on the rocks. They arrived on an island. The family made a tent. Mr Robinson and Fritz went for a walk to find something to eat. They walked until a coconut fell down. They looked up and they saw a baby monkey. They took it with them because it was useful. Mr Robinson and Fritz went back to the ship to take the animals and the food. They took corn, bread, potatoes and a pig, two dogs, seven chickens, a goat and a donkey. A few days later, they found a tall tree. There they built a Tree House. Mr Robinson went back to the ship. They found a fishing line. With that they caught a big fish. The family made a garden with the corn, potatoes, sugar and some bamboo. The family went out, they caught two young buffaloes. It was winter and the weather wasn’t good. It was cold and it rained. They found a big cave. There they built their new home. Fritz found a girl, Jenny, who was also on the island. Jenny’s father came looking for her with a ship. Fritz and Jenny wanted to go back to Europe with her father. The rest of the family wanted to stay on the island.

The characters in the book are: Mr Robinson, who was a man with four children. He tried to do new things every day. Mr Robinson’s wife, who was the housekeeper. Fritz, who wanted to explore the island. Ernest, who wanted to study books. Jack and Franz, who helped their mother at home. Jenny, who was good at catching fish.

I liked Fritz’s character because I like to explore things that I don’t know.

I can relate with Mr Robinson’s character. I try to make things better every day.

The message in this book is that we must be together with our family for ever.

I liked this book very much. It was interesting. It was a very good adventure story.

Evi Vogiatzi   “The Turn of the Screw”

This book I read was really scary! It talks about a young woman who found a job as a governess to look after two children: Miles and Flora. They were orphans and their uncle gave them a big house near a lake. The housekeeper, Mrs Grose, told the new governess that there was another woman who worked as a governess and some servants in this house who died mysteriously. The new governess became very good friends with the children. But after a few days she started to see ghosts in the house. the ghosts were Mrs Jessel and Peter Quint: the old governess and one of the servants. Those ghosts were the children’s friends and they wanted to take Flora and Miles with them. At the end they managed to take what they wanted: the children…

In this story there are 7 important characters: the new governess, Mrs Grose, Miles and Flora, Peter Quint and Mrs Jessel. The new governess was a twenty-year-old woman who came from a poor church family and she worked as a governess. She was very brave and she loved children. She wanted to find out what the ghost wanted from the children. Mrs Grose was the housekeeper of that haunted house. Flora and Miles were brother and sister. They had blond hair and they were beautiful. But Peter Quint and Mrs Jessel taught them to be bad. They were both intelligent. Sometimes they acted so mysteriously and strange. Peter Quint and Mrs Jessel were both bad and evil people. In the story they appeared only as ghosts.

My favourite character was the new governess, because she was brave. My least favourite characters were Quint and Jessel. I don’t think that I can relate myself with anyone of those characters.

The message of the book is that if we believe in something really hard we can be brave.

The story was great! It kept me in suspense. I felt fear and danger. I liked it.

John Fikaris

Once upon a time there was an ugly man in Paris who was named Quasimodo and he used to live in the cathedral of Notre-Dame. Because of his hunch on his back and his ugly body, he took the name of “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame”. All the people were afraid of him, because he was strong as a hundred men! One day the sound of the bells broke his ears, because he was the bell ringer and he used to ring the bells. Only Father Claude Frollo could talk to him with symbols. One day he saw a gypsy girl who was named Esmeralda and when Claude Frollo saw her, he began falling in love with her! One day she was with Phoebus, one of the King’s guards and Father Claude Frollo who was there to watch out what they were doing. After a few minutes the shadow of Claude Frollo appeared with a knife and he killed Phoebus. But Frollo disappeared and when soldiers arrived they thought that Esmeralda had killed him. They took her to the judge and they lied to her that Phoebus was dead. Then they took her to be tortured. Esmeralda couldn’t be brave, because they took her there to torture her. But when the time for the hanging came, Quasimodo appeared. He took the girl and they went to the tower in the church and he shouted “Sanctuary!”. A few days later, someone told the thieves to go to the cathedral and rescue Esmeralda, but Frollo went there at night and he took Esmeralda to hang her. Then the other day Esmeralda was hung and Frollo, who was looking from the tower, gave a bad smile. Then Quasimodo pushed Frollo from the tower and he died.

The important characters are: Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notre-Dame, Esmeralda, the beautiful gypsy, Father Claude Frollo, the bad guy of the story and Phoebus, the handsome soldier. I can’t relate myself with anyone and I didn’t like anyone, too.

This book hasn’t got a specific message. I know that you want a message for each good book, but there wasn’t any! It was a remarkable book and it was one of the best ones I have ever read!

Sandy Michailidi   “Jumanji”  

Hello everybody! My name is Sandy. I’m here to make a short summary of the book “Jumanji”. This book was written by Todd Strasser. It is an adventure story. The most important person was Alan Parish. He was a man who did all the things in this story.

Alan had a friend. She was Sarah Whittle, a beautiful girl. One day Alan and Sarah opened the game. Then strange things started to happen. After two minutes Alan was in the game. In 1995 Judy and Peter started playing the game. It was difficult but they managed it.

My favourite character was Alan Parish. He did all the work. And the good characters were Sarah, Judy and Peter. My least favourite character was Van Pelt the hunter. He wanted to kill Alan.

In this book we can understand that there was a very important message. The message is that when you start something you must finish it. With this message we understand that when you don’t finish something it’s difficult to start it again and improve it.

This book was great. I liked it a lot. I want to continue reading. All the books are great. I can’t wait for the next one.

Aristina Leventouri   “The Count of Monte Cristo’’

Edmond Dantes was a young seaman. His enemies, Danglars and Caderousse, told the government that he wanted to help Napoleon return to France as its ruler. On the day of his wedding to the beautiful Mercedes, Edmond was thrown into the prison at the chateau d’If. There he met a man who told him about some treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. He escaped from prison and was able to find the treasure on that island. Finally he returned to his home and family in Marseilles.

The most important characters of this story were Edmond Dantes, Mercedes, Danglars and Faria. Edmond was very brave and clever. He tried to escape from prison and he did it. He was my favourite character and I also think I can relate with him because he was very patient. Mercedes was a beautiful and clever lady. She loved Edmond very much. She waited for him to return from prison and she didn’t lose her hope. Danglars was a bad and wicked man. He was my least favourite character. Faria was a very clever and good person. He helped Edmond to escape and he told him about the treasure. He was a very good friend. That’s all about the characters.

The message of this book is that we mustn’t lose our hope. We mustn’t despair but we must try to win. This message is very important in our lives because we’ll meet a lot of problems and we must be strong to avoid them.

This book was really wonderful. It was the most beautiful book I’ve read. It kept me in suspense and I think it was very interesting. I liked it very much. I suggest you read “The Count of Monte Cristo” anyway.

Evi Fragou   “The Prisoner of Zenda”

This book talks at first of an adventure. Rudolf Rossendyll, a man who had travelled widely and spoke lots of European languages very well read in the papers that Rudolf the Fifth, a king was going to be crowned in Ruritania. Rudolf Rossendyll decides to go there because he thought that it will be a great ceremony. He arrived in the country and stayed in the town of Zenda.

One day he met the new king in the forest and realised that he looked just like him and their most unusual common feature was their red hair. It was really amusing. Rudolf had also to behave with the beautiful Princess Flavia who believed him to be king when he found out that he was in love with her. Rudolf needed courage now and a really good idea to escape from the dangerous game that had started in this faraway country.

The main characters were: Rudolf Rossendyll, the King, Princess Flavia and Rupert.

My favourite character was Rudolf Rossendyll because he was a courageous man, a very clever and daring person. I think that I can compare myself with him because I like danger and I think that I am a daring person. My least favourite character was Black Michael because he was a bad man and he was only thinking of himself.

The message I got from this book is that in many ways a friendship can be improved with strong feeling and love but this unfortunately is very rare these days.

The book kept me in suspense. I liked it very much because the story contained all the features of a good adventure: chance, surprise, danger, skill and love. I would like to read it again.

Joanna Mendonidi   “The Street Lawyer”

Michael was working as a lawyer at the company “Drooke and Sweeny”. One day, a man went to the company. He was a dirty, homeless man, who a month ago lived at a warehouse with people like him and his name was Devan Hardy. After that, Michael became occupied with the homeless and one day, when he met a family who lived in an old car, he was sorry for them. So the next day he went there to give them some food and toys but he didn’t find them. Some days later, he heard that the family was dead. Then he found Braden Chance, a bad man, and he compelled him to remunerate that family and other people.

The message of this book is that we must help people who need our help, like poor people.

The main characters of the book are Michael Brock and Braden Chance. Michael was a good man who cared about the others and wanted to protect the homeless. Braden was a really bad man who didn’t want the poor people to have a house and he cared only about himself.

I think the person I can relate with is Michael because I want to protect the homeless.

I liked this book a lot. It wasn’t difficult and there weren’t lots of new words.

This story is about a great boy whose name was Tom Sawyer. This boy escaped from his house many times but every time he came back. Tom loved adventure and one day he went to live on the banks of the Mississippi. Tom escaped the river with his friends and lived like a pirate. One day Tom and his friend Huck found a treasure and they became rich. At the end Huck found a house at Douglas’s home. After many years everyone in the village started to hunt for buried treasures.

The main characters of the book were Huck and Tom. My favourite character was Tom because he liked adventure. My least favourite character was Jun Joe because he killed people. I can’t relate with Jun Joe because he was a killer.

The message of this book is this: everything can be and if you are a poor person with a little luck you can become a rich man.

The book was very interesting because I like adventure. This book had a lot of suspense. It had got a lot of new words but the dictionary at the end helped me.

“The Day of the Jackal”

In the opening scene of the book, members of a secret organisation called the OAS were trying unsuccessfully to assassinate de Gaulle by shooting at his car. They were angry with de Gaulle for his part in allowing Algeria. Their leader, Colonel Marc Roclin, was very upset when the assassination failed and he formed a new plan. He decided to hire a professional killer from outside of France, someone who was completely unknown to the French police. He and his men chose a man who called himself “The Jackal”. The story followed the Jackal’s careful planning and preparations for the assassination and the efforts of police detective Claude Lebel to stop the killing and save the President’s life, like they did.

The most important character was the Jackal of course. He was a very smart person with a flexible mind. I love this kind of thinking. Another important character was Claude Lebel. I liked her all together. She was smart, an excellent person who loved the good and she wanted to help everybody. They were the most important characters for me.

My favourite character that I think that I can relate with is Claude Lebel, because I like her character and I think that we are the same characters too but not all.

I don’t think that this book has a main message. Maybe it wants to show us that we must help the good with everything we can do and with no fear.

I recommend you to read this book because it’s full of adventure and you’ll love it like me.

I like this exercise because it was difficult but it also helps us to learn how to write a report better.

I will talk to you about a great book named “The Danger”. Andrew Douglas was a detective. So he had to find and rescue the people that were kidnapped. He had to rescue a girl, Alessia Cenci, a great horse rider. The criminals wanted money but they found them and Andrew Douglas saved the girl and he caught two of them. Then in England one little boy was kidnapped by the same kidnappers. His father was a good horse rider. Andrew Douglas investigated the case and found the criminals. Then he saved the boy. And in the USA a great boss of a horse rider was kidnapped. Andrew Douglas Learnt was their leader that wanted money for a horse and they saved that person. Then they arrested Guilloise, the criminal’s leader.

Andrew was handsome, intelligent and a great detective, Alessia was a good horse rider with a good heart. Guilloise Peter was bad and he wanted only money. My favourite character was Andrew.

This book’s message was that we mustn’t want only money. That money isn’t the only thing that gives happiness.

This book was mysterious and it kept me in suspense. I want to keep it but I know that Miss Athena has given it to Kiriaki. Now tell me, can I kill her to take her book?

Tasos Geomelos   “Farewell, my lovely”

Hello! I’m going to tell you about the book “Farewell, my lovely”. The story tells us about a bank robber named Moose Malloy. He had a girlfriend, Velma Valento. He was in prison but he left. He tried to find Velma and he asked her boss where he could find her, but he didn’t know. So Moose killed him. The police ignored the murder, but a detective named Philip Marlowe tried to find him. One day someone phoned Philip and told him that someone stole his girlfriend’s jewels. Later he found the man that called him and he was dead. He found a card with his psychiatrist’s name. He went to this mental institution. Moose Malloy was there too. Philip visited a friend of Moose and talked with him. Moose went to Philip’s house and he found Velma there. She told the police Moose’s name. Then Moose tried to kill her, but she killed him and after she committed suicide.

The main characters were Moose Malloy, who was a bank robber and a killer, Velma Valento, who was his girlfriend, Philip Marlowe, who was a detective and he tried to find a solution to the problem. My favourite character was Philip Marlowe because he wanted justice done and the bad guys to go to prison. My least favourite character was Moose because he was a maniac criminal.

The message of the book is that justice is a serious thing and we can’t play with it, because we will let criminals free to commit crimes and we will send the good people to prison.

The book was very nice and interesting and I liked it, because I like mysteries and I like solving them. In the beginning I found it difficult to read, because there were a lot of new words, but my dictionary did a great job.

Nuclear war between Russia and China destroyed all life in the North. The radiation travelled South. In Australia, where people were still alive, Peter and Mary Holmes tried to live their lives as normally as possible as the radiation came closer and closer. All the people hoped that the radiation couldn’t reach them. But they were wrong. The radiation came fast and left no one alive.

Peter Holmes was a tall man, handsome with black hair and eyes. He was married and he had a baby. He really loved his family. Mary Holmes was Peter’s wife. She loved her children but she didn’t care a lot about the radiation. She didn’t even believe that it could reach them. Dwight Lionel Towers was an old man; he was the captain of a submarine. He was married with two children in America. Moira Davidson was unmarried. Her only friends were Peter and Mary Holmes. She was always drank.

My favourite character was Mary Holmes. She was optimistic and not gloomy like her friends and neighbours. But I can’t relate myself with her because I care about the future, but she didn’t. I can relate myself with Dwight Lionel Towers because he liked travelling and meeting new places and people. He liked making a lot of friends like me.

The message of the story is: Nuclear energy can be used in a lot of different ways. Unfortunately people use it for wars. But it’s too dangerous and it can destroy all life on earth.

The book was very interesting and it had a lot of suspense. It was easy because I didn’t find a lot of new words. But the most important is the message. All people should read this book especially the “strong” men with power to understand the damage they can cause on earth and life on it.

Steve Melis   “Nicholas Nickleby”

Hello! My name is Steve Melis and I’m writing about a bad and sad story. The story begins. Ralf Nickleby was a rich man. One day he received a letter. When he read it he started thinking. He read that his brother was dead. So, he left all the care of his children and his woman to his brother. Ralf didn’t want to spend a lot of money for his relatives. He sent his brother’s son, Nicholas, to work at the Hall School as a teacher. Nicholas was in a terrible condition. There he knew a boy, whose name was Smike, and the headmaster Mr Squeer. He was a bad man and he was kicking and hitting the small boys. Smike became friends with Nicholas because he had not any friends. One morning Nicholas became angry with the headmaster and bit him. He left quickly from the school with Smike. But he hadn’t any money. A farmer gave him some money to return to his family in London. In London he knew Mulberry Hawk, who wanted to marry his sister but he finally left her alone. Nicholas’s life was terrible after his father’s death.

The main characters of this story are Nicholas, who was a brave man, although he had to face a lot of difficulties in his life. Ralf Nickleby was a rich man, who really didn’t want to help his relatives. Mr Squeer was a bad man who hit small boys. Smike, a young and poor boy, hadn’t got any friends. My favourite character was Nicholas Nickleby because he was a brave man who didn’t find happiness in his life. My least favourite character was Mr Squeer because he hit the boys. I can relate with Ralf Nickleby because if you have a lot of money you don’t want to spend it on unimportant things.

The message of this book is that we shouldn’t give up when we have to face some difficulties but we should continue everything we want with no fear.

How is it really to be famous? Let’s see the advantages and the disadvantages of being famous.

First of all you can buy whatever you want because you have a lot of money. You can travel anywhere you want. Everyone cares about your opinion and wants your autograph. You meet other famous people and you work with them. On the other hand, there are disadvantages of being famous. Firstly, you don’t have privacy because everyone wants to know about your life. People are jealous of your success and you don’t have real friends because they want to be famous too. Everybody recognizes you can’t go out and without your bodyguards. Journalists and photographers follow you around for an interview and photograph for their magazines.

In my opinion, it isn’t good to be famous because you don’t have a normal life and everybody knows everything about your life.

Most people believe it must be great to be famous because there are many advantages.

If you are famous you can buy many modern clothes, houses and cars which you want. You can travel all over the world and you are recognized wherever you go. People want your autograph and photo with you. You meet lots of other famous people and the other people are interested in your opinions.

The biggest disadvantage for being famous is that you don’t usually lead a normal life: you have to travel a lot and work long hours. Also you might have problems finding real friends who are interested in you and not the glamorous lifestyle. Famous people have no privacy because journalists and photographs follow them around and they usually need bodyguards.

They are jealous of your success and they watch your every action. As a consequence, you need bodyguards, because you are in danger and you have to be careful with your actions.

In conclusion, I think that when you are famous, there are a lot of positive and some negative aspects. But if you are careful, you don’t have to worry about anything and your life will be very exciting.
